音乐 Technology (BS)
Columbia College Chicago’s 音乐 Technology program focuses on the science of sound—how music 技术 can be designed, 形状的, 使用, and 操作d for experimental live performances, 视频游戏, music compositions, sound installations, and other musical activities. 在这个节目中, you’ll do more than operate the tools; you’ll design, 黑客, 操作, and reconfigure the next generation of music 技术.
Our Bachelor of Science program combines faculty expertise with coursework in music composition, 编程, and audio 技术. After taking introductory courses in science, 数学, sound 技术, 和声学, you’ll choose one of three concentrations: Interactive 音乐 Design, Electroacoustic Composition, Perception and Timbre, Programming Audio, and Physical Design.
音乐 Technology graduates can pursue careers as multimedia artists, 声音艺术家, music software and hardware designers, 程序员, and user experience (UX) designers. The program also prepares students for graduate study in music 技术, human-computer interaction, and computer science.
Bachelor of Arts vs. Bachelor of Science
A Bachelor of Science (BS) requires more substantial STEM (science, 技术, 工程, and 数学) coursework than a traditional Bachelor of Arts (BA) does. Our Bachelor of Science in 音乐 Technology has STEM requirements built into the curriculum so that students master the scientific concepts behind the music 技术 they design and create. The Audio Arts and Acoustics Department offers several BA programs for students interested in learning music 技术 at a practitioner level.

What to expect your first year
The 音乐 Technology major begins by building your background knowledge. You’ll sharpen your knowledge of sound in courses like Sound for Interaction, Studies in Hearing, and Fundamentals of Audio Production, and take courses in science and 数学.
What to expect your last year
All 音乐 Technology students in their junior and senior years take The Sonic Experience, a four-semester course that bridges music, 声音艺术, and computer applications. 在本课程中, you’ll explore electroacoustic music production and build a portfolio of professional-level music 技术 projects.
